Report on the Ladies garden & Tunnels

The Ladies garden was planted on the 9th June 2014 with beetroot. The whole garden was planted, except the parts that do not have sprinklers. This was planted with cabbage. Most of the seed have germinated. The beetroot in the ladies garden is facing insects, eating the leaves. The cabbages are not troubled by insects.

The tunnels are also planted on the 9th of June 2014 and most of the seed germinated, looking good. The planting bags in the tunnels are full of beetroot. The leaves look green and growing fast. For the planting bags which did not germinate during the first round, we replanted, until all of them had plants.

Difference

All the beetroots in the ladies garden and that in the tunnels were planted on the same date with same variety of seed, but if you look at the pictures of the beetroot in the ladies garden and those in the tunnels, there is a big difference. The beetroot in the ladies garden are very small at 3 weeks and not so green. The ladies garden is receiving water every day from the sprinklers, from 6 o'clock until 11 o'clock in the morning and again from 2 o'clock in the afternoon until 6 o'clock. The leaves are not so developed and they grow very slow.

The beetroot in the tunnels look very much different from that in the ladies garden. They are green and they are much bigger. If you look at the pictures there is a big different in size and leaves. Comparing the sizes was a big surprise. The tunnels are receiving water once per day, mixed with hydroponic fertilizer. Even though the beetroot in the ladies garden and the tunnels was planted on the same day, it will not be harvested on same date, due to the difference in growth. The plants in the tunnels are performing much better than that in the open garden.
